DO IT EASY

DO IT EASY

“The name describes us very well, we are quite easy-going ourselves and we never think things are impossible to realize, we just do it.” Sebastian von Gumpert

“We are like a whole army, a massive family that shows up and organises stuff after just one phone call.” Gregor Möllers

Walking around Kreuzberg, it’s hard to miss out on the hundreds of ‘EASYdoesit’ stickers that decorate the streets, shops and bars around here. The stickers carry the name of a video production firm that stands for everything Kreuzberg is famous for; they’re young, alternative and always willing to party. Its founders agree: “EASYdoesit is a lifestyle.”

About a year and a half ago four friends produced their first video together. Three of them, Sebastian von Gumpert (26), Gregor Möllers (31) and Dimitri Hempel (32), we meet at their office in the heart of Kreuzberg. Although all of them have different background in studies – these friends have always been involved with music videos.

5000 litres blood
When their friend Felix Urbauer asked their help to produce a video in just a few days, they didn’t hesitate.  Sebastian: “In very little time we had to organise 5000 litres of blood that we wanted to use in the video and we had to bring a lot of professional skateboarders together.” To add some more drama to the video, they destroyed laptops and set fire on the set. “It was amazing.”

The video turned out to be a great success. They decided to found a business and EASYdoesit was born in early 2012. Sebastian: “The name describes us very well, we are quite easy-going ourselves and we never think things are impossible to realize, we just do it.”

Until dawn
Their real breakthrough came a few months later, when they got the opportunity to produce the music video for the newest song of Marteria, Yasha and Miss Platnum – called ‘Lila Wolken’ (‘purple clouds’). Sebastian: “It was hard to convince the decision makers that we could do this – our name was quite new in the music video business. But we got it and I think we did a good job.” He laughs: “I mean, the song was the hit of 2012 in Germany and the video has more than 20 million views on YouTube.”

Gregor adds to that: “The song ‘Lila Wolken’ also fits well to our lifestyle since we are also often awake until the clouds are purple again.” He grins, thinking back about this production. “I don’t just mean the parties, we also work until dawn sometimes!”

But it’s not only party videos they make. Sebastian: “We just launched a video we shot in Cape Town in South Africa. That was also way more serious. And it was our first international project. In the future I can also see us developing our own formats.” Gregor adds: “We’re open to many things. Movies, documentaries, commercials or music videos. And maybe when we produce more commercials we can use the money we earn to try out projects and formats ourselves.”

Massive family
To be able to launch all these projects, EASYdoesit has expanded quite a bit over the past year. Sebastian: “About 17 people now work for EASYdoesit – all friends of us. People always wonder whether you can work together well with friends, but I think it gives us something extra. We all help each other and take care of one another. We are a group of friends who all strongly believe that we can turn this into a success – you can’t buy that with money.” Gregor adds: “We are like a whole army, a massive family that shows up and organises stuff after just one phone call.”

Gregor thinks that they were also lucky with the advancements in technology to be able to start the business. “15 years ago it would have been impossible to do this. Editing videos happened with actual scissors and an editing suite cost thousands of euros back then. Nowadays everybody can shoot high quality videos on their photo camera’s and a laptop is enough to do the editing.”

Tuktuks
This huge family is working hard to turn EASYdoesit into a brand. Dimitri: “It’s not just about producing videos – it’s a lifestyle brand. There are a lot of people who want to be part of it, because they get a positive vibe from us.” Sebastian adds: “That’s why we also host parties. EASYdoesit is about young people and Kreuzberg of course, but also about friendship.”

In the meantime, keep your eyes open for stickers. They can be found far away from Kreuzberg and Berlin. Dimitri: “I just came back from a holiday in Malaysia and Indonesia. I have pasted about 300 stickers on the back of the tuktuks there.”
